There are many days when you just want to let yourself relax and let the summer breeze run through your hair on a Sunday drive. This is the beauty of convertibles. One moment your car has a roof and the next moment it doesn’t, and a convertible is something you really deserve. You have saved up a lot of money and want to invest in a luxury convertible that matches your tastes and sense of style.
While many car enthusiasts may be polarised between convertibles, we do love them ourselves. While convertibles aren’t common in today’s world, a few manufacturers dare to go against the grain and produce the vehicles we so desire. So, let’s take a look at some of the most powerful convertible cars currently in production and on the market in 2017.
1: Rolls-Royce Dawn
This beauty is touted as the replacement for the Drophead Coupe. The Dawn is not just a convertible Wraith by any means. This baby blue devil is from the same line as the Ghost family and was engineered from the ground up to be a convertible. The car has a 6.6 litre Twin Turbo V12 engine with 563 horsepower and can do 0 to 60 in 4.3 seconds.
2: Lamborghini Aventador SV Roadster
From the family of V12 powered composite supercars comes the Aventador SV Roadster courtesy of Lamborghini. Considered more of a Targa top than an actual convertible, this motoring beast has roof panels that are stored in a front compartment. This beauty has all-wheel-drive with a single clutch automatic transmission, with a 6.5 litre V12 engine. Add to this a carbon fibre chassis with the capability of doing 0 to 60 in 2.8 seconds, and we’re very impressed.
3: Ferrari 488 Spider
This beautiful convertible from Ferrari is thought to be the spiritual successor to the 288 GTO. The Spider comes with a Twin Turbo 3.9 litre V8 engine, with 661 horsepower and can do 0 to 60 in 3 seconds. The car’s chassis is made entirely of new composites which means its lighter and more rigid than predecessors. With a more ergonomic interior than previous Ferrari, this is one strong contender.
4: Lamborghini Huracan Spyder & Audi R8 V10 Spyder
We decided to put these two supercars together for the sake of our sanity, as they are both such powerful behemoths. The only differencs between these two is external as both cars have the same engine and internals. The differences come in terms of appearance and price-point. The R8 is heavier than the Lamborghini, however, the Lamborghini has a deeper exhaust and more aggressive gearing in 3rd and 7th gear.
5: Chevrolet Corvette Z06
This Corvette Z06 is one of the limited drop-tops that’s available in manual, has 650 horsepower and is powered by 6.2 litre Supercharged V8. This epic car can do 0 to 60 in 2.9 seconds. The car also has a newly developed stability control system that gives drivers the ability to fine tune all performance aspects of this ride such as the throttle performance.
6: BMW M6
The BMW M6 is effortless and elegant at the same time, sadly, the 6-series coupe and convertible lines have been discontinued so this is one hot automotive item at the moment. Luckily, this year, there will be a longer run for this model. This beauty has an f12 chassis with a 4.4 litre twin turbo V8 engine, 600 horsepower. On top of this, the M6 is capable of 0 to 60 seconds in 3.7 seconds.
7: Maserati GranTurismo
The GranTurismo is an Italian monster with a lot going for it. This elegant convertible has a fabric top similar to the line of coupes and has plenty of space for yourself and your friends. This convertible has a powerful 4.7 litre V8 with 454 horsepower and can do 0 to 60 in 4.6 seconds.
8: Aston Martin Vanquish Volante
This is Aston-Martin’s first ever carbon fibre convertible and it packs one heck of a punch with a 6.0 litre V12 powerhouse engine, 576 horsepower and amazing aerodynamics. Going from the 0 to 60 in 3.6 seconds, the Vanquish Volante comes with an automatic transmission and you get a convertible that does not compromise on anything.
9: Porsche 911 Turbo S Cabriolet
This supercar from Stuttgart originally has evolved a great deal from its inception in 1963. Convertible versions of this classic have not always been so powerful but this 2017 version is as powerful as they come. This 911 has the latest turbocharged technology with a dynamic boost function. With a 3.8 litre twin turbo flat six engine, 580 horsepower and much more, we have a true contender here.
10: Bentley Continental Supersports
This is one of the most powerful convertibles on our list. The Continental Supersports has received a lot of critical praise and claim and for good reason. The interior consists of quilted hand-stitched leather which give you comfort when this powerful convertible goes from 0 to 60 in 3.9 seconds using its 6.0 litre W12 Twin Turbo engine.
