  1. MAGALIESBURG

The small town of Magaliesburg is located just below the Witwatersrand mountain range, in close proximity to both Pretoria and Johannesburg. Not only does the town offer many exciting activities such as hot air ballooning and whitewater rafting, but there are a number of interesting things to catch along the way. Some of the en route attractions include the world famous Sterkfontein Caves, the Maropeng Visitor Centre located at the Cradle of Humankind, the Mountain Sanctuary Park as well as the Elephant Sanctuary. You will also have the unique opportunity to see Africa’s wildlife at the Rhino as well as the Lion Nature Reserve. You can even spend some time on a working farm.

Located in Mpumalanga, the Blyde River Canyon is just 404.7 km outside of Johannesburg; roughly a 4-½ hours drive. Do yourself a favour and travel the Panorama Route, popular for its waterfalls and views to write home about. Lisbon Falls, Berlin Falls and Mac Mac are all located in close proximity on the Panorama Route, as are the various notable landmarks like God’s Window, Wonder View and Bourke’s Luck Potholes.

Situated high in the Maluti Mountain range in Lesotho, the route to Katse Dam will take you through the towns of Bethlehem and Reitz. Travelling around 6 hours will take you to the centerpiece of the noted Highlands Water Project. The area offers accommodation including everything from bed and breakfasts to casino hotels.

 

As you enter Northern Lesotho enjoy the spectacular landscape filled with mountains, gorges and almighty waterfalls. The area is stunningly wild and natural, perfect for a 4×4 adventure. Travel the Highlands Ski Route and spend your time soaking landscapes like no other. Alternatively, you can take the Lowlands self-drive route and enjoy the many historical as well as cultural sites located in the lowlands and of Lesotho.
