The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster is one of those rare modern performance cars that already feels like a future classic. It represents the end of an era, combining naturally aspirated power, timeless design, and genuine driver involvement in a way that few cars have managed since.

Developed entirely by Mercedes-AMG, rather than simply being a tuned Mercedes-Benz, the SLS Roadster was the brand’s first ground-up sports car. Under its long bonnet sits the legendary 6.2 litre naturally aspirated V8, producing 420 kW and 650 Nm. With no turbochargers to soften the delivery, every throttle input is immediate, accompanied by one of the most celebrated V8 exhaust notes ever produced.

Unlike the iconic SLS Coupe with its famous gullwing doors, the Roadster replaces them with a beautifully engineered fabric roof while retaining the same aluminium spaceframe chassis. Mercedes reinforced the structure so effectively that the Roadster weighs only marginally more than the Coupe, preserving its sharp handling and balanced character.
